Last year we provided critical food assistance and programming to 43,000 individuals. We are seeking someone as passionate as we are about ending hunger, a storyteller who can bring our food equity work to life through compelling presentations, communication, and grant proposals that inspire funder investment. We are looking for an experienced Development professional and relationship-builder to manage a portfolio of foundation, corporate, and government funders and increase funding opportunities. As a creative fundraiser passionate about social justice, you will leverage your networks, knowledge of local and national foundations, and targeted prospecting to build a robust pipeline of food security champions. POSITION TITLE: Grants and Institutional Giving Manager
REPORTS TO: Director of Development
DURATION: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
The Grants and Institutional Giving Manager will participate in the strategic planning, budgeting, and development design for grants, institutional giving, and capital campaign. You will develop tailored prospect engagement that builds genuine connection in advancing food equity.
Grant Management
This position is responsible for all phases of grants development, evaluation, and compliance, including researching grant opportunities, pre-award grant writing, coordination and writing of grant applications, post award support for grant-funded projects, managing the grant reporting process, successfully closing out grant projects, and reporting outcomes to other stakeholders.
• Oversee a portfolio of foundations to maintain $500K funding annually with a goal of increasing funding by 15% or more within 12 months through active prospecting of new foundation funders
• Provide strategic leadership and work with program managers to identify measurable goals and objectives for program development; compile program outlines, materials, and data to write compelling narratives; and developing grant budgets
• Serve as a liaison between program managers and finance department to ensure accuracy and timeliness of funder reports, budgets, and billings
o Coordinate with the finance team and program staff to ensure transactions are properly recorded and conform to the grant agreement and deliverable deadlines
o Manage grant-based contractor agreements, ensuring the terms and conditions of agreements are met and properly documented and communicated
• Proactively establish and maintain warm and connected relationships with funders and other stakeholders
o Ensure the successful stewardship of foundation donor relationships by managing appropriate frequency of outreach, communication, appreciation, and involvement
o Work with staff and stakeholders to develop, execute, and evaluate strategies to engage institutional partners through outreach, education, invitations to special events, etc.
• Manage the grant calendar and communicate needs/deadlines with all parties to assure timely submission of all applications and reports
• Develop protocols to manage grant calendar and communications through Salesforce CRM
Strategic Development Responsibilities
• Provide guidance and collaborate with Director of Development to develop and execute strategy to build grantor relationships, streamline the grant process, and increase support
• Create tools, resources, and training to support grant and institutional fundraising strategies across departments
• Collaborate with Development staff in support of annual fundraising plan including annual and planned giving, fundraising events, tours and presentations, and reporting
• Provide leadership and project management for capital campaign including oversight of work plan and timeline.
Administration and Planning
• Work with the Finance department to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of institutional gifts and engagement using Salesforce CRM
• Manage weekly gift acknowledgment correspondence
• Support the development team in their preparation of thoughtful appeal and acknowledgement letters and assist with direct mail campaigns
• Identify, attend, and participate in ongoing professional development and fundraising training activities
• Support the Director of Development in other areas as directed
Required skills
• Five years or more experience in grant writing and institutional giving
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field or commensurate work experience
• Demonstrated success in securing grant funding including small, medium, and large awards as well as government grants
• Passion for writing and editing including superior writing, grammar, and editing skills
• Ability to write compellingly and precisely--love of the Oxford comma a plus
• Experience with and passion for prospect research and organizing information
• Paramount attention to detail in all aspects of grant work
• Ability to drive projects while closely collaborating with multiple stakeholders
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Adobe Suite, Emma (email marketing platform), Salesforce, and Drupal a plus.
• Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity
• Sophisticated project management skills and ability to accurately juggle multiple tasks
