Job Status/Salary: Full time, exempt, $58,000-$63,000 annual salary + benefits package

Last year we provided critical food assistance and programming to over 69,000 individuals. Our energetic and fulfilling work environment is resourced by an operating budget of $5.4 million, 18 full-time staff members, 5 part-time staff, 1 full-time VISTA member, over 1300 active volunteers—and possibly you.
 
Function: The Dietitian coordinates various nutrition-oriented tasks for the Nutrition Education team; these tasks may include organizing and leading cooking classes and food demonstrations, developing nutrition collateral, and providing outreach to community partners. As the Dietitian, you will also be responsible for teaching and precepting dietetic interns during their community rotation at Beyond Hunger.
 
Major Responsibilities:
 
Nutrition Education Program
  • Collaborate with Nutrition Education team to plan, schedule, and deliver monthly nutrition education topics. This will include developing monthly nutritional collateral, like handouts and recipes, and planning food demonstrations during food pantry distributions.
  • Lead nutrition topics and food demonstrations or supervise dietetic interns in these tasks.
  • Lead in person and/or virtual cooking classes; supervise dietetic interns as they assist in these classes. Cooking classes may be for Beyond Hunger program participants or for community partners.
  • Follow organization's evaluation and assessment protocols: Administer and collect assessment protocols for the Nutrition Education program. Follow measuring standard to ensure accuracy in data analysis process.
  • Maintain and provide program data as needed for grant proposals and/or reporting on current grants.
  • Work with supervisor to establish program budget for each fiscal year.
  • Work with supervisor to develop program goals at the start of each fiscal year. (Nutrition Education goals should coordinate with the mission of the organization and the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) requirements for dietetic internships.)
  • Work with supervisor to conduct internal program evaluation through yearly review of program achievements, policies and procedures, curriculums, evaluations, and surveys as they compare to the organization's missions and program goals, instituting changes as necessary.
  • Work with Nutrition Education team to sustain and develop new partnerships with healthcare organizations/institutions to staff the blood pressure station and to provide clinical/health education to program participants during food pantry distributions.
  • Gather impactful stories from program participants to use for funding purposes; share with Development team.

  • Pursue a program of professional self-development, including selected readings, seminars, and workshops. Maintenance of RD/RDN and LDN status is mandatory.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as necessary or to accomplish the purpose and goals of the organization.
  • Contribute to the organization's work toward racial equity and health equity.

Qualifications

  • Prior working experience as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist preferred (1-3 years).
  • Must possess refined culinary skills with a deep understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented; maintaining an accurate and organized schedule is a must.
  • Team oriented; work closely with related organizational programs/teams to build integrated programming for participants.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and approach.
  • Highly skilled communication and excellent interpersonal skills. Timely response to electronic communication (usually 24 hours during normal business days). Engaging and motivating presentation skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver effective topic and food demonstration presentations.
  • Ability to guide dietetic interns and assess their progress towards competencies per Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • RD(N) status confirmed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); licensure (LDN) confirmed by the state of Illinois.
  • Food Handler certificate (ServSafe) or food sanitation license equivalent strongly preferred.

Working Relationships and Reporting Line

This position reports to the Nutrition Education and Benefits Services (NEBS) Program Manager.
