In the News: Local Non-Profits Chosen For Women Leaders in Philanthropy Grants

OAK PARK, IL — Five local non-profit organizations were recently announced as recipients of Women Leaders in Philanthropy grants totaling $42,700. According to a news release sent to Patch, the group of the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation announced these five grantees as recipients for the 2020-2021 cycle:

Beyond Hunger Walk in Freezer/Storage: $10,000
Quinn Center Food Pantry: $5,000
NAMI Metro Suburban Support 4U Texting Program: $10,000
Thrive Counseling Center Suicide Prevention: $5,000
OPRF Township Senior Services Creating Connectedness Project: $12,700

According to the news release, the five awardees were chosen after a rigorous grants review process, which was ongoing throughout the summer. According to Women Leaders in Philanthropy, these programs best matched the three causes which Women Leaders members elected to support this year. The causes are:

Address food insecurity needs in youth and senior populations
Connect seniors, adults and youth with counseling and support networks for mental health promotion and suicide prevention
Support programs which promote positive mental health and encourage community engagement, especially intergenerational relationships, for older adults, thereby reducing social isolation among older adults
