OUR NEW HOME

new building
We are excited to announce that we are purchasing a new, permanent home! We are working to strategically build the infrastructure to end local hunger through client-centered design that enhances program impact in a community-focused facility. Our new home, located at 6209 North Avenue in Oak Park, will create a safe and accessible space for neighbors to access food and services. More than a physical space, the building is a symbol of our commitment to equity, community engagement, and sustainability.

Thanks to committed supporters, we have made tremendous progress toward our $3.7 million capital campaign goal. Funds raised to date have allowed us to purchase our new home. Our remaining fundraising goal will help us remodel and create a welcoming hub for Beyond Hunger's programs and establish a Building Fund.

designed for dignity

Originally housed in just one location (the basement of First United Church of Oak Park), our staff and volunteers now work out of four separate facilities to safely store and distribute food and to deliver our array of services. Quarters are so tight that many staff share desks and shift offices weekly. Programs straddle locations, causing confusion to participants trying to locate services. Resources are taxed, simply rotating food back and forth across locations because centralized storage is inadequate.

This disjointed model severely limits our ability to meet growing hunger needs. More importantly, it prevents us from scaling program models that have proven to successfully reduce hunger and increase nutrition security.

OUR VISION: Building For The Future

The future of Beyond Hunger calls for scaling impact. With our proven flexible service models, we provide personalized, dignified support that empowers individuals to move beyond hunger. Through the Building for the Future Campaign, we are laying the groundwork for a more resilient and sustainable approach to food security. Continual improvement—through assessing our current models and preparing for future innovations—is a cornerstone of this approach.

The Building for the Future Campaign will help us achieve our vision through two funding priorities:

Priority 1: Designed with Dignity

Our new home will be a welcoming hub for Beyond Hunger's programs and will ensure:
  • Easy access: Fully accessible and close to public transportation.
  • More Room to Serve: 65% more space with expanded cold and dry storage.
  • Community Market: Grocery-style space for dignified, walk in food selection.
  • Community Kitchen: Demonstration and learning space for cooking and nutrition education.
  • Smooth Operations: A modern loading dock for fast, safe deliveries.
  • Volunteer Hub: A dedicated, uplifting space for those who support our mission.

Priority 2: CARING FOR OUR NEW HOME

We will establish a Building Fund dedicated to the ongoing care and stewardship of our new facility. This fund will support unexpected repairs and essential updates—ensuring our new home remains safe, welcoming, and fully operational year after year.

THE FINAL STRETCH

Our goal is to raise $3.7 million to purchase and build our new home. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we've already raised 87% of our goal. You can help us reach the finish line and open the doors to a space that will help us serve even more neighbors.

For those interested in supporting our campaign at a higher level, naming opportunities are available for gifts of $5,000 or more. Please reach out to Rashida Dairyko or Teri Miller to learn more.
