Project Description:
The Capacity Building Coordinator - Development Team AmeriCorps VISTA member will build the capacity of Beyond Hunger's Development Team by creating systems and infrastructure to support long-term revenue growth.
 
Project Goals:
  • Partner with the Development Team to build a sustainable, annual giving strategy to raise $150,000 towards the operating budget which supports hunger relief programs that reach 69,000 individuals annually.
  • Work with the Major Gifts Officer to create a process that allow the Development Team to effectively steward and engage existing donors.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to update the quarterly donor newsletter with program updates and current events.
  • Work with the Grants Manager to research grant funding and support the submission of grants.
  • Utilize Donor Search and other resources to identify grant prospects that total an additional $100,000 in revenue.
  • Maintain a grant calendar and prospect list to support grant proposals and administration.

 

Design and implement a centralized repository and classification system for stories/testimonials from clients, volunteers, and donors. Testimonials are used in donor outreach materials to illustrate the impact of our work.

 

Member Activities:

  • Conduct research on best practices for gathering, storing, and ethically using client and stakeholder testimonials in nonprofit communications.
  • Create documentation and guidelines for team use, including consent processes, storytelling protocols, and suggested formats for use across platforms.
  • Develop a process and calendar for updating and sharing testimonials regularly via the organization's website, newsletters, and social media.
  • Gather and document testimonials by working with the Home Delivery team, Client Advisory Council, Pantry Program team, volunteers and donors.

 

Audit existing SharePoint structure across three separate Development Team sites and design a cohesive system. This cohesive system will allow the team to leverage historical data to secure new funding streams for grants, corporate sponsorships, and individual donors.

 

Member Activities:

  • Audit and organize existing SharePoint structure across three separate Development areas by working with stakeholders to understand the current folder structure and the functionality of the development activities for fundraising events, marketing, appeals, sponsorships, grants and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with team members to design a unified folder structure and archive outdated materials.
  • Lead the reorganization and merge of SharePoint sites into a cohesive system that improves access, collaboration, and transparency across department.
  • Create a user guide and train staff to maintain the new SharePoint site structure post-service.

Support the development of a new Major Gifts Program. This program is essential to creating a sustainable revenue stream to support future growth of the Pantry Program and Home Delivery.

 

Member Activities:

  • Research peer organizations' models for major gifts and planned giving programs.
  • Design major gift donor outreach templates, develop donor stewardship tool kit for internal partners, and create a stewardship workflow for the Development Team that is tiered based on donor segmentation.
  • Research and create donor profiles by using wealth screening tools and update CRM with donor segmentation categories and capacity. Establish major gift donor stewardship timeline and engagement tools based donor segmentation and capacity.
  • Develop a donor solicitation strategy by designing individualized cultivation plans and tailored communication based on donor segmentation. Work with the Development Team to create donor-specific communications and mission-centered experiences to deepen engagement.

Collaborate with the Director of Development to optimize the Development Department's marketing policy and communications procedures to establish best practices.

 

Member Activities:

  • Create clear and easy-to-follow documentation for internal use outlining Social Media Promotion Policy, Fundraising Policy, Gift Acceptance Policy and Volunteer Photo Use Policy.
  • Collaborate with the Development Team, Pantry Manager, Home Delivery manager and Volunteer Manager to create content for donor reports, newsletters, appeals and campaigns.

Collaborate with the Development Team to research and apply for new grants.

 

Member Activities:

  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
  • Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry and grants reports tailored to the interests and guidelines of potential funders.
  • Maintain an up-to-date grants calendar with submission and reporting deadlines. Track outcomes, monitor grant deliverables and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
