Project Description:
The Home Delivery Capacity Building Coordinator VISTA will expand the Home Delivery program through the development of off-site drop-offs, increase volunteer engagement and documented processes.
Project Goals:
- Increase enrollment for Beyond Hunger's Home Delivery program in the Oak Park and Chicago (60651/60644) area to service homebound and disabled adults experiencing food insecurity through new partnerships.
- Support volunteer expansion to support sustainability of current Home Delivery program and expansion into new service communities.
- Build new community partner relationships for referral process in Berwyn community for homebound and disabled adults facing food insecurity and for drop-off sites at partner organizations.
Improve delivery driver and in-person shopping volunteer relationships and increase volunteer shifts filled by 20%.
Member Activities:
- Review and understand current volunteer expectations for drivers for Home Delivery Berwyn pilot program to analyze what may be working or what may need improvement.
- Work with current and new volunteers to gather feedback on Home Delivery Berwyn pilot volunteer shifts and processes.
- Lead volunteer recruitment and communications for Home Delivery Berwyn pilot program. Observe and learn processes for in-person Berwyn pilot food packing shifts.
- Increase volunteer engagement by outreaching to community groups and establish new relationships in Berwyn through tabling events.
- Being leading in-person Berwyn pilot food packing shifts with current and new volunteers and day-of delivery driver instructions.
Create specialized volunteer training material to increase engagement with general volunteers, volunteer leaders, groups, and volunteer events.
Member Activities:
- Collaborate with Home Delivery Program Manager and Home Delivery Program Coordinator bi-monthly to track goals for Home Delivery program Berwyn pilot volunteer outreach and expectations.
- Create short educational reels and other training materials for all volunteer procedures, including specialized volunteer training tutorials. Assist with onsite/virtual training bi-monthly for specialized volunteer shifts.
- Collaborate with Home Delivery staff to update food safety tutorials and documents on the volunteer portal for volunteer review as part of their onboarding process and review with new in-person volunteers.
Increase enrollment of food insecure neighbors through Beyond Hunger's Home Delivery Berwyn pilot expansion.
Member Activities:
- Attend community and outreach events with Program Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, and Benefits Services Coordinators.
- Establish re-occurring partner meetings on quarterly or as-needed basis to check in with new partnerships and ensure program service expectations are met.
- Review client onboarding processes for efficiency and expansion abilities.
