A Simple Way to Give with a Donor-Advised Fund

DAF Day image

Today is DAF day, a national movement bringing together donors, nonprofits, and donor-advised fund providers to celebrate a simple but powerful way to give.

At Beyond Hunger, we’re proud to accept gifts through donor-advised funds—and DAF Day is a great opportunity to share a little more about how they work, whether you already have a DAF or are simply curious about this increasingly popular way to give.

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a charitable giving account that allows you to contribute funds or other eligible assets, potentially receive a tax benefit when you make the contribution, and then recommend grants to nonprofits over time.

For donors who already have a DAF, it can be an easy way to support Beyond Hunger. You can recommend a grant to Beyond Hunger directly from your account—whether as an annual gift, an additional gift when community needs increase, or part of your longer-term charitable giving strategy.

For those who don't have a DAF, it can be a helpful tool to explore as you think about your charitable goals. Some donors use DAFs to simplify their giving, keep track of the organizations they support, or set aside charitable dollars now and decide over time where they can make the greatest impact.

Teri Miller, Director of Development, explains:
“Donor-advised funds can be a simple and effective way to make charitable giving part of your overall financial plan. They’re relatively easy to establish, may offer valuable tax benefits, and allow individuals and families to be thoughtful about how and when they support the causes that matter most to them. For families in particular, a DAF can also be a meaningful way to build a tradition of giving that carries forward to the next generation.”

Whatever way you choose to give, your generosity helps Beyond Hunger provide nutritious food and essential support to neighbors throughout our community. And if you already have a donor-advised fund, Beyond Hunger welcomes DAF grants.
