OUR FUTURE HOME

Join us in creating a space designed to serve more families with dignity, efficiency, and care.

new building
We are excited to announce that we have purchased a new, permanent home! We are working to strategically build the infrastructure to end local hunger through client-centered design that enhances program impact in a community-focused facility.

Our new home, located at 6209 North Avenue in Oak Park, will create a safe and accessible space for neighbors to access food and services. More than a physical space, the building is a symbol of our commitment to equity, community engagement, and sustainability.

As the need in our community continues to rise, our current facility limits how many neighbors we can serve, how efficiently we can operate, and how are programs can grow. We see what's possible—expanded food access, improved client choice, dedicated space for programs and volunteers, and a welcoming, community-centered hub—but we can't get there in our current home.

BE PART OF THIS TRANSFORMATIONAL MOMENT

We're launching the Building for the Future: Moving Beyond Hunger Campaign. Thanks to committed supporters, we have made tremendous progress toward our $3.7 million capital campaign goal. Funds raised to date have allowed us to purchase our new home. Our remaining fundraising goal will help us remodel and create a welcoming hub for Beyond Hunger's programs and establish a Building Fund.

why this investment matters

designed for dignity

What began in the basement of First United Church of Oak Park has grown into a network of four separate facilities.

Today, our team operates across multiple locations: sharing desks, shifting workspaces, and transporting food between sites just to meet daily demand. For our neighbors, this can mean confusion about where to go. For our staff, it means time and resources spent navigating a system that was never designed to support this level of need.

This model is no longer sustainable, and it limits how many people we can serve.

OUR VISION: Building For The Future

We have the opportunity to change that.

Our new home will bring everything together under one roof—creating a more efficient, welcoming and dignified experience for every person who walks through our doors.

With the right space we can expand access, strengthen our programs, and scale solutions that are already working.

The Building for the Future Campaign will help us achieve our vision through two funding priorities:

Priority 1: Designed with Dignity

Our new home will be a welcoming hub for Beyond Hunger's programs and will ensure:
  • Easy access: Fully accessible and close to public transportation.
  • More Room to Serve: 65% more space with expanded cold and dry storage.
  • Community Market: Grocery-style space for dignified, walk in food selection.
  • Community Kitchen: Demonstration and learning space for cooking and nutrition education.
  • Smooth Operations: A modern loading dock for fast, safe deliveries.
  • Volunteer Hub: A dedicated, uplifting space for those who support our mission.

Priority 2: CARING FOR OUR NEW HOME

We will establish a Building Fund dedicated to the ongoing care and stewardship of our new facility. This fund will support unexpected repairs and essential updates—ensuring our new home remains safe, welcoming, and fully operational year after year.
